ABSTRACT
This qualitative study intends to find out the “ranking order” of 12 factors (advisory
council, culture, due diligence, hard work, open mind, passion, return on investment, self-
assessment, support, system, talk to existing & previous franchisees, and value), recommended by
a counsel from “industry experts”, that influence purchasing a franchise business. Utilizing a
sample of podcast interviews, the ranking order indicates that there are six major factors: Passion
(first rank), talk to existing & previous franchisees (second rank), due diligence and franchise
system ((third rank), return on investment and franchise support (fourth rank). The ranking order
of the marginal factors was as follows: hard work, open mind, self-assessment, and values took
the fifth rank. Finally, culture and advisory council took the sixth and the seventh ranks,
respectively. Therefore, the authors will focus on the six major factors.
