EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION BEFORE AND DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC: THE CASE OF A SMALL RURAL HOSPITAL

ABSTRACT
This study examines and compares the employee motivation before and during e COVID-
19 pandemic in a selected small rural hospital. Employee motivation was measured by Hackman
& Oldham’s (1976) job characteristics model dimensions (skill variety, task identity, task
significance, autonomy, and feedback). A sample of employees in that rural hospital was surveyed
before COVID-19 pandemic. Then, a second survey was done during COVID-19 pandemic.
Utilizing ANOVA for data analysis, the findings of this study revealed some differences between the
motivation of hospital’s employees before and during COVID-19 pandemic. However, there was no
significant difference in the employee motivation before and during e COVID-19 pandemic in the
selected small rural hospital.
