UTILIZING DATA ENVELOPMENT ANALYSIS (DEA) FOR ANALIZYNG TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY OF SELECTED EGYPTIAN MANUFACTURING INDUSTRIES

ABSTRACT
This study investigates the technical efficiency of Egyptian manufacturing sector. A
nonparametric technique, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is used in finding estimates of
technical efficiency in the manufacturing sector in Egypt during a period of ten years (2000-
2010). Utilizing a sample of seventeen (17) Egyptian manufacturing industries in both public
and private sectors during a period of ten years (2000-2010 )in Egypt, the results of this study
confirm that there has been some improvement in the efficiency of the manufacturing sector.
According to the average annual growth rates, the tobacco industry in the private sector has the
highest level of technical efficiency during that period.
