ABSTRACT
Raising the level of motivation and morality is not a simple process, yet is essential toward the goal of excellence for the transformational leader. How might leaders seeking to enhance their effectiveness as transformational leaders acquire skills to do so? Virtue ethics may be the answer. Ethics is the study of the general nature of morals and of specific moral choices. Virtue is the predisposition to do good things. Virtue-based ethical theories place less emphasis on which rules people should follow and instead focus on helping people develop good character traits, such as kindness and generosity. There are key links between virtue ethics and transformational leadership. This study explores virtue ethics as a pathway toward excellence for the transformational leader.
